Walter "Wally" Schmidt February 28, 1930 - June 18, 2010 SALEM - Wally Schmidt went peacefully to be with the Lord on June 18, 2010, surrounded by family he loved. Born on February 28, 1930 to Marie and Emil Schmidt. He graduated from Nash High School in Chicago, Ill. in 1949. He moved to Oregon in 1955 and with his then wife and raised four children, Jean, Greg, Dale and Stephanie. In 1985 he met Susan Fraser. They were married in 1988 in their home in Salem. Together they raised two son's, Matthew and Brady. Wally was an accomplished painter and wall paperer. He was a paint foreman for the State of Oregon for 24 years before retiring in 1989. Wally also worked as a caregiver until early 2010. Wally was the nicest, most genuine, loving and caring person, and we will miss him terribly. He is survived by his wife, Susan; sons, Greg, Matt (Amanda), and Brady (Chelsea); daughters, Jean (Waine), Stephenie (Gary); grandchildren, Tommy, Tyler, Nikki, Lexi, Raigan, Evan, Taylor and Hendrick; great-grandson, Cobey. A visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 24 at City View Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 25 at Cloverdale Cemetery in Turner. Arrangements are by City View Funeral Home.
