Perry was born on November 15, 1965 in Albany, Ore., to Glen and Marcella Burlison. He graduated from Cascade High in 1983. He earned his Bachelor’s in Animal Science at O.S.U. in 1989. That fall, following his graduation, he began his teaching career at Cascade High for four years. From 1993 through June 2005 he taught at Woodburn High School where he was the Agriculture teacher and FFA advisor. He was voted Teacher of the Year by the Woodburn Chamber of Commerce, Teacher of the Week by K103 FM Radio, as well as many other achievements attained over the years.
This September he started a new challenge, restoring and re-establishing the FFA Chapter at JFK High School in Mt. Angel. He loved teaching and spending time with his students and shared his love for agriculture with them. He was very involved with activities within the community. He began the Junior High State Wrestling Tournament held at Woodburn High School as well as running the Capital Conference District Wrestling Tournament for many years. He was a great family man with four wonderful children and two step-daughters. He loved all of his children dearly. He spent many years coaching his oldest son’s and daughter’s softball and baseball teams. He was very involved with his children’s lives. He was himself from a big family consisting of 11 other siblings. He was a kind man with a big heart, touching many lives. He was a hardworking man with many other side projects including a pig farm, landscaping and outdoor cooking for large events. Many will miss Perry dearly.
