January 20, 1918 passed away in Salem February 11, 2008. Harold graduated from Libby high school then attended the University of Montana majoring in Music and Mathematics. It was while attending college that Harold met his future wife Ellen J. Lind. After graduating Harold joined the Navy Aviation Corps in 1942. He married Ellen and they moved to Corpus Christy Texas where Harold flew PBY's. He was a flight instructor and flew out of both Corpus Christy and the Philippines. As a Lieutenant he left the Navy in 1946 and returned to the University of Montana to complete his masters in Education. Harold and his family moved to Salem in 1959 and to Turner in 1975. Harold worked as a rehabilitation counselor until his retirement in 1985. Harold and his wife Ellen had 3 children: Phil Martin (Penny) of Colorado Springs, Pam Chick (Ray) of Salem and Andrew Martin (Gayanne) of Canby. He had 6 grand children: Darylyn, Elaine, Greg, Scott, Kelsey and Alex. He had one great-grand child Linda. An important part of Harold life was being a Mason. He served his lodge as Worshipful Master. He belonged to Scottish Rite and was a member of the White Hat. He was a Shriner and he belonged to Eastern Star with his wife, Ellen serving as Worthy Patron with her 3 times. Harold became a gentleman farmer after his retirement. On his farm in Turner he kept cows, chickens and horses. He rode in a mounted Shrine club for many years. He had a beautiful rose garden and spent many hours drawing and painting. His wife Ellen proceeded him in death last August. The couple had been married for 65 years. Services for Harold will be held at the Masonic Lodge in Turner by Pearl Lodge and Victoria Chapter OES on Saturday May 31st at 11:00am followed by remembrance and fellowship at the lodge. Donations in Harold's name may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
