MARRIAGE - John Scafe [Skaife] married Mary Ette [Marietta] Hiles on 22 Nov 1849 in Dubuque Co., Iowa.
1880 OR CENSUS - Mariette [Marietta] Skaife, age 48, b. Missouri, is enumerated with John Skaife, age 58, farmer, b. England, along with Jasper, age 29, Mary, age 27, Margaret, age 22, and Laura, age 18, all born in Oregon. Also enumerated with the family is James Thompson, age 35, occupation farm laborer, b. Pennsylvania.
1900 OR CENSUS - Maryetta [Marietta] Skaife, age 69, widow, b. Feb 1832 in Missouri, is enumerated in the home of Jasper Skaife, age 49, occupation farmer, b. Oct 1850 in Oregon, and his wife of 15 years, Josephine, age 38, b. Feb 1862 in Oregon, along with children Leslie, age 13, b. Jan 1887 in Oregon, and Nancy E., age 10, b. May 1890 in Oregon;
DISCREPANCY: The obit gives her place of birth as Iowa, but census records give place of birth as Missouri.
OBITUARY: 
Mrs. Mary [Marietta] Skaife, aged 69 years and 10 months, died at the residence of her son, J. N. Skaife, on the corner of 18th and Chemeketa streets in this city at 6:45 o'clock yesterday morning, of old age. Deceased was born in Iowa, in February, 1831 [1832], and after her marriage in Dubuque, Iowa, she removed with her husband, in 1850, to Oregon and settled at Woodburn, where they lived for three years afterward moving to Fairfield where they took up a homestead and have lived there continuously until Mr. Skaife's death, which occurred on April 10, 1892. Since the death of her husband Mrs. Skaife has been living with her four children all of whom survive her. They are: Mrs. Mary Francis Philips, of Zena; Mrs. Maggie Marthaler and Mrs. Laura Broyles, of Fairfield, and J. N. Skaife, of this city, at whose home she began to fail and finally passed away peacefully as above mentioned.
Mrs. Eugene Breyman is a sister-in-law of deceased and she also had a nephew, Michael Skaife, who resides at Silverton.
The remains will be removed to the old home at Fairfield at 1 o'clock p.m. today, and the funeral services will be held at that place at 11 o'clock a.m. tomorrow.
