1880 IA CENSUS - H. Rhoten, age 29, occupation farmer, b. Iowa, is enumerated with wife Orilla, age 28, b. Iowa, along with children Effie, age 6, b. Iowa, Louella, age 4, b. Iowa, and Ezra A., age 1, b. Iowa.
OBITUARY: 
John H. Rhoten Called By Death
He Had a Long Life of Usefulness, Thirty Years of It in This State John H. Rhoten was born in Linn county, Iowa, March 26, 1851. He would have been 75 years old had he lived till the 26th of next month. He died at his late home, 345 Division street, Salem, yesterday forenoon, Feb. 2, 1926.
Up to his last sickness Mr. Rhoten lived on a farm all his life, and at the time of his death he owned a farm in Yamhill county and one in Polk county.
He died of diabetes of several years standing. He leaves his widow, Rilla Rhoten, aged 73 years, and two sons, J. Earl of Eugene and E. A. Rhoten of Salem, and two daughters, Mrs. M. A. Barber of Marion, Or., and Mrs. F. E. Hans of Marion, Iowa. There is one living brother, Charles of Stewartsville, Minn., and one sister, Mrs. C. R. Moore of Springville, Iowa.
The parents of Mr. Rhoten were pioneers in Linn county, Iowa, being among the very first white settlers there. The Rhoten family have an organization in Linn county, Iowa, and hold yearly meetings. A Rhoten genealogy book has been compiled and printed.
Mr. Rhoten and his family moved to Oregon in 1896, lived four years near Roseburg, Douglas county, and then purchased a farm near Turner, Or., and has lived on a farm in the Salem district since that time.
He was a member of the Leslie M. E. church of Salem. He led an exemplary life, characterized by fair dealings with his fellow men; honest, straightforward, industrious; a good neighbor and a true friend.
Funeral services will be held at the Webb mortuary Thursday at 2 p.m. They will be in charge of Rev. J. Willard Deyoe, pastor of Leslie Methodist church. Interment will be at Marion, Oregon.
