1880 KS CENSUS - Jessie R., age 7, b. Kansas, is enumerated with Reuben Small, age 36, occupation farmer, b. Indiana, and Ruth, age 34, b. Indiana, along with Benjamin C., age 11, b. Indiana, Hannah, age 9, b. Illinois, and James B., age 5, b. Kansas. Also enumerated with the family are Daniel Tobias, age 21, occupation laborer, b. Pennsylvania, and Chockley Slyter, age 69, b. Vermont.
1910 OR CENSUS - Jessie R. Small, age 36, single, occupation laborer, b. Kansas, is enumerated with Reuben Small, age 66, occupation farmer, b. Indiana, and Ruth, age 63, mother of 12 children 9 of whom are living at the time of the census, b. Indiana, along with Frederick L., age 8, b. Michigan.
1930 OR CENSUS - Jess Small, age 56, single, occupation farmer, b. Kansas, is enumerated with his step-mother Ella C. Small, age 77, widowed, first married at age 19, b. Iowa. 
DISCREPANCY - spelling variation on name - Jessie, Jesse
Marion—Jesse Small died last Wednesday at the Deaconess hospital in Salem. Small is survived by brothers, Charles of Marion, Will of Trinidad, Cal., sister, Mrs. Storey Cooley, besides other relatives in the east. Graveside services will be held at the Marion county cemetery Thursday at 2 p.m.
