OBITUARY: 
Boat Guide Dies in River.
MARION—John H. (Cap) Smith, who was drowned Saturday while boat guiding on the North Santiam River, was born in Marion and lived here most of his life.
He operated Smith’s General Merchandise store here for 23 years. He was a founder and currently president of the North Santiam River Guides Association. He attended the Friends Church here.
Surviving are the widow Babe; son Gary of Sweet Home; daughter Mrs. Linda Lee McLaughlin of The Dalles; two grandchildren; parents Mr. and Mrs. Lee Smith of Marion; sister Mrs. Doris Morse of Agate Beach, and two grandsons.
Services are pending at Weddle’s mortuary, Stayton.
