Effie Barber, 95, 1870 Market St. NE, died Friday at a local nursing home.
Born near Viola, Iowa, she came to Douglas County in 1898 and moved to the town of Marion later that year. She lived in Marion until 1939 with the exception of two years in Philomath. She helped her husband run a grocery store in Marion and was assistant postmistress several years during the 29 years her husband was postmaster there.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, Salem.
Surviving are daughters Mrs. Gladys Boyce, Salem, Mrs. Francis Snyder, Portland, Mrs. Doris Robbins, Turner, Mrs. Marion Stafford, Coos Bay, and Mrs. Elma Costa, San Jose, Calif.; sons Royal, Salem, and Wayne, Eugene; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
