OBITUARY:
Died, Dec 16, 1869, at his residence in Marion co., Oregon. Mr. John Buff. The deceased was born in Lincoln Co., North Carolina, March 16, 1794, moved from North Carolina to Missouri in 1832, from Missouri to Oregon in 1852. He joined the Baptist Church in 1834, and was a devoted friend of Jesus up to his death. He fell asleep in Christ, fondly hoping to have a part in the Resurrection of the just. He leaves an aged companion and children, and a large circle of friends to mourn his departure from their midst. It was his request while his health was well as on his death bed, to have read at his grave, the fifth chapter of St. John accompanied with appropriate hymn and prayer, which was done.
