BIOGRAPHICAL [uncited source] - Matthew Gibson was a somewhat outstanding personage in the community. The Gibsons were from Ireland. He had the most beautiful handwriting and did remarkable drawings in pen and ink, of exotic birds with long plumage, entirely executed in penmanship strokes. This type of writing today would be known as calligraphy. He also had a considerable flair to writing and wrote many of the obituaries for the local newspapers, usually ending them with a few lines of original poetry.
