1900 OR CENSUS - Margarete McMahan, age 29, b. Feb 1871 in Oregon, is enumerated with her husband of 8 years, Lenard [sic], age 34, occupation lawyer, b. Oct 1865 [sic?] in Oregon, along with Eugene, age 4, b. Oct 1895 in Oregon. Also enumerated is Rosalie, identified as mother [of Leonard], widow, age 60, mother of 2 children, 1 living at the time of the census, b. Dec 1839 in Missouri.
OBITUARY: 
At the family home on Front Street, Thursday, April 3, 1913, Mrs. L. H. McMahan, at the age of 42 years.
The deceased was the wife of the well-known Salem attorney, and her death followed an operation performed at the Salem Hospital recently.
She is survived by her husband, three children, and two sisters. They are: Mrs. Virginia A. Peebles, of Salem; Mrs. A. W. Giesy, of Portland; Dr. J.C. Griffith, of Salem, and Dr. C.C. Griffith, of Burns. The surviving children are Eugene, 17; Marguerite, 9, and Heney, 4. The funeral, which will be private and attended only by relatives and close friends of the family, will be held from the home tomorrow morning at 9 o’clock. The remains will be laid to rest in the Warren Cemetery, east of this city.

Last Tribute of Respect is Paid – Mrs. McMahan Had Spent Entire Life Here – Many Flowers Attest to Esteem –
Mrs. L. H. McMahan, who died Thursday afternoon at the Salem Hospital, was given the last tribute of respect by relatives and friends yesterday morning at 9:30, at the home on North Front Street, when Rev. P.S. Knight read the impressive burial service. Only immediate relatives and friends were in attendance at the funeral. Mrs. W. Carleton Smith Sang in a very impressive manner Mrs. McMahan’s favorite song, “The Home of the Soul.” Mrs. McMahan lived all her life in and about the Capital city and was much loved and honored. That she held a high place in the estimation and hearts of her friends and was shown by the great number of floral pieces that were given as tokens of regard. These pieces were so numerous that a special floral wagon was provided to carry them.
Her maiden name was Miss Mattie Griffith and she was born in 1871 at the farm home about ten miles east of the city. In 1889 she was married to L. H. McMahan, and besides her stricken husband she leaves to mourn her loss Eugene, a son of 17; Margaret, a daughter of 11, and Carl, aged 4; her aged father, Hon. L.C. Griffith; her brothers, Dr. J.C. Griffith and Dr. L.F. Griffith of Salem, and Dr. Carl Griffith of Burns; her sisters, Mrs. A.W. Giesy of Portland and Mrs. Virginia Peebles of Salem, and many relatives and friends.
The body was laid to rest in the family lot in the Warren Cemetery near the old home in the Waldo Hills beside the grave of a little daughter, their first born. The pallbearers were Dr. Roy Byrd, A. N. Bush, Joseph Albert, J. N. Skaife, R. J. Hendricks, and Dr. R. E. L. Steiner.
The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved husband and family.
