Illinois), maiden name of mother Mahala Smith, interment 15 Apr, undertaker Rigdon-Richardson, informant not listed.
MARRIAGE - Harden McCallister & July Smith, m 5 Jan 1850, #9.
1850 OR CENSUS - Harden M. McCallister, age 23, b. Illinois, is enumerated with Julia, age 27, b. Virginia, and William, age 28, b. Illinois.
1880 OR CENSUS - Harden McCallister, age 54, farmer, b. Missouri, is enumerated with wife Julia, age 58, b. Virginia, along with children Annette, age 20, b. Oregon, and Eugene, age 19, farm laborer, b. Oregon. Also enumerated is Mahala, identified as mother [of Harden], age 79, widowed, b. Kentucky.
BIOGRAPHICAL (From A History of the Silverton Country):
"Harden McCallister was born in Wayne county, Illinois, in 1827. He crossed the plains in the same company with his future wife. They were not married until 1850. Their donation land claim was on Howells Prairie. William B., the eldest son, resided at Pratum, the owner of the Pratum Flouring Mills. Virginia Gurgle resides in Washington, and T. F. resides near Prineville. The youngest son was killed in a boiler explosion. Nettie died in Montana. The mother died June 15, 1899. Subsequently Mr. McCallister married again. His second wife survives him, he having passed away April 14, 1915, at the age of 87 years."
DISCREPANCY - DC gives place of birth as Knox Co., Illinois, biographical sketch by Robert Down gives place of birth as Wayne Co., Illinois.
