OBITUARY:
Salem Man Dies After Auto Crash in Portland – Portland, Ore., July 4 – Arthur H. Harlor, 31, of Salem, was injured fatally in an automobile accident here today. He died in a hospital several hours later.
Traffic investigators said an automobile driven by Peter Model, Portland, crashed into Harlor’s machine. They arrested Model on a charge of reckless driving. H.R. Shook, Milwaukie, a passenger in Harlor’s car, and Herbert Model, 12, riding with his father, were slightly injured. Harlor is survived by his widow and infant child.
Arthur H. Harlor was a son-in-law of A. L. Bowen, who resides on route 6 near Pratum. His wife and their month old baby daughter have been visiting at the Bowen home and were spending the Fourth at a community picnic when they were notified of the fatal accident.
Mr. Bowen communicated with the hospital by phone and learned that the body will not be released until after the coroner’s inquest. He will go to Portland today and make arrangements for bringing the remains to Salem, where funeral services will be held. Burial is expected to be made in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Harlor was a native of New York state. His mother still lives at Johnson, N.Y. He also has a brother in that state. He came west a number of years ago. He worked here as a telegraph lineman. Fourteen months ago he was united in marriage to Helen Bowen. Their child was born just a month ago today. They have made their home on the baseline road east of Portland where Harlor has been employed to nearly a year. He came up to visit his family last week, returning home Wednesday morning. According to the word received by Mr. Bowen, Harlor sustained a fracture of the skull. He lived for three hours after the accident occurred.
