OBITUARY:
SALEM - Eric Spedale, beloved son of Dominick and Colleen Spedale, died in Corvallis in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 14. He is survived by his parents, his sister, Alison Spedale Josifoski of Portland, his grandparents, Roy and Carol Cooper of Woodburn; aunts and uncles Ken and Phyllis Cooper of Wilsonville, Rick and Jules Cooper of Corvallis, Janice and Dan Johnson of Canby and his many cousins. Eric will be greatly missed by his friends and family; his absence has left a huge and unexpected hole in our hearts and lives.
After graduating from South Salem High School in 2000, he had many adventures; building trails with Northwest Youth Corps, living in Eugene and Wyoming for a time, then spent eight months on Hawaii’s Big Island where he worked on an organic farm, swam in the ocean and learned about the flora of the island. Last year he became a student at Chemeketa Community College where he pursued his interests in Spanish, anthropology and religion. Eric was a person with a questioning and curious mind. He loved all kinds of music and was friends with several members of local musical groups. He loved gardening and was often seen on his parents’ property pushing wheelbarrows of leaves and compost, planting seeds and tending the herbs. Eric loved animals, reading, crocheting hats for his friends and was a gourmet vegetarian cook. He was smart, sensitive, and a passionate believer in peace.
A Celebration of Life memorial service in honor of Eric will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 28, at the First Unitarian Church at the corner of Center and Cordon roads in Salem. Arrangements are by City View Funeral Home.
