Jacquoline N. Mader (nee Johnson) passed away on her late husband's birthday. She will be remembered as a loving, kind grandmother, mother, sister, aunt and friend who lit up any room with her enthusiasm for life.
Jackie was born in Stayton, Oregon the daughter of Hilda (nee Trask) and Theodore "Ted" Johnson. She was a graduate of Salem High School and attended Willamette University on a full tuition scholarship graduating in 1952. She was a life long supporter of Willamette and in 2002 was recognized as a Sparks Medallion Recipient.
After raising her own children Jackie went back to school to become a teacher. She taught fourth grade at Aumsville Elementary School for 15 years. She loved teaching and many of her students came back years later to see her.
Jackie was a passionate learner as she eagerly took classes in a variety of fields ranging from geology to water painting. She loved traveling. She was active in many organizations including First United Methodist Church, Alphi Chi Omega sorority, McAlpin Stitchers, Oregon Women for Agriculture, PEO, and the Salem Library Foundation. She also cherished her membership in her Literary Book Club and Theater Arts group.
She is survived and will be greatly missed by her son Robert, sister Sue McDonald, daughter in-laws Gwen and Maureen Mader, and her grandchildren, Kevin, Erin, Ellen and Brian Mader. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard (2008) and son, Scott (2013).
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 11 at the First United Methodist Church, 600 State St, Salem, Oregon. The family is requesting donations be made in her name to the Willamette University Fund, Willamette University, 900 State St, Salem OR 97301.
