1880 OR CENSUS -Lemuel Hibbard, age 71, occupation brick mason, b. New York, is enumerated as a boarder in the home of Geo. & Mary Riches;
OBITUARY: 
Died – At Silverton on April 15, 1886 – Mr. Lemuel Hibbard, aged 77 years, 6 months, and 16 days. Mr. Hibbard was born in New York in the year 1808 and moved to Ohio, and from there to Illinois, and finally settled in St. Louis, Mo., and lived there for several years and was at one time on the police force of that city. When the gold mines were discovered in California, he got the gold fever and in the Spring of ’49 started across the Plains to seek his fortune in the mines.
He lost his wife and one child on the plains. He reached California the fall of ’49 and lived there until eight years ago when he came to Oregon and lived in the vicinity of Silverton until his death.
