Born in Salem, he had been a logger before retiring. Survivors include his wife, Alice; sons, Randy McCallister and John Spain, both of Salem, and Jeff Spain in California; daughters, Norma Jean, Portland, Judith Gillis, Phoenix, Ariz., and JoAnn LeClair, Alburquerque, N. M.; brothers, Alfred and Ray, both of Salem; sister, Juanita Terry, Salem; and five grandchildren.
