"Cyrenius Condit, pioneer of 1854, who came with his father, the Rev. Phillip Condit, to Oregon that year, married Rebecca Rowland. She was born May 1, 1834, and died March 25, 1863. Two years later Mr. Condit married Jane Frank, of Portland. She lived until March, 1910. Mr. Condit died in July 1904. He had three sons to grow to manhood, namely S. J., who married Clara Robbins Loftus; H. B., who married Mary Ellen Wells, and O. A., who married Ada L. Worth. A. O. was an attorney of Salem, Oregon, and died in 1925."
OBITUARY:
CONDIT—At his home in Turner, Oregon, July 28, 1904, at 1:25 p.m., Cyrenius Condit. Mr. Condit was born in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, January 20, 1827, and at the age of 12 years moved to Wood county, Ohio, where he lived until 1854, when he crossed the plains with ox teams to Oregon, reaching the Willamette valley in October of the same year. He took a donation land claim about four miles southeast of Turner, where he resided until 1891, when he moved to Turner. He was married May 1, 1851, to Rebecca J. Rowland, who died in March 1863, and on January 3, 1865, he was married to Miss Jane Frank, of Findlay, Ohio, who with his sons, S.J. Condit, of Stafford; H.B. Condit, of West Stayton, and A.O. Condit, of Salem survive him.
The deceased was of sturdy pioneer stock, and spent the most of his life amid the dangers and privations of pioneer life, always bringing into his business and social affairs those sterling qualities of integrity and fair dealing which made him honored and respected wherever known. He was always active and interested in the affairs of government, but was never a candidate for any political office. During the later years of his life the infirmities attendant upon advancing years kept him closely confined to his home, but by devoting himself to reading, he kept in touch with the business, political, and religious affairs of the world, and at the last election was at his own request, taken to the polls that he might vote his principles. He was one of the charter members of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian church, and he and his brother, Sylvanus Condit, who passed away three months ago, did most of the work in erecting the Pleasant Grove church building, which is now the oldest building of that denomination on the Pacific coast.
His last illness was brief and very severe but the end came as quietly and peacefully as a child falling asleep.
The funeral will be held from the family home at Turner on Saturday, July 30th, at 12:30 p.m.
