FUNERAL IS TODAY FOR JUNIOUS CONDIT
One of Oldest Pioneers In West Stayton Region Called by Death
Silas Junious Condit, member of one of the oldest pioneers in the West Stayton area, died Friday at his home there, within less than a mile of the old homestead which his paternal grandparents, Phillip and Nancy Condit, established after coming across the plains in 1854. He had been in ill health for the past six or seven years.
The Condit family took an active part in the founding of the old Presbyterian church at Pleasant Grove in 1856, Phillip Condit being one of the first trustees and his son, Sylvanus, the first elder. Several Condit's were charter member of the church, which was organized on September 27, 1856.
Mr. Condit was a brother of A. O. Condit, former Salem attorney who died here a number of years ago, H. B. Condit, of West Stayton is also a brother. He is also survived by his widow and two daughters, Mrs. Fred Denham and Mrs. Carl Gibson of West Stayton.
Funeral services will be held at the Weddle parlors in Stayton at 10 o'clock Sunday morning, October 23, with interment in the Pleasant Grove church cemetery, four miles southeast of Turner.
