1900 OR CENSUS - Thomas Rutherford, age 58, widowed, occupation farmer, b. Jan 1842 in New York, is enumerated with son Edsall, age 12, b. Nov 1887 in Oregon.
At the Samaritan hospital, Salem, Oregon, Friday, September 22, 1905, at 2:05 a.m., T.W. Rutherford, aged 64 years, 6 months and 6 days.
Funeral will be held at the Presbyterian church, Marion, at 11 o’clock a.m., Sunday, September 24.
Deceased was born in St. Lawrence county, New York, February 27, 1841. In 1869 he went to San Francisco, Cal., and resided there and at Oakland until 1876, being engaged in the sawmill business. In the latter year he moved to Marion in this county and engaged in farming and stock raising, which business he carried on quite extensively until three years ago, when he sold out and came to Salem, having his residence in Fruitland.
He was taken ill in the latter part of June, and soon after was taken to the Florence Sanatorium, where disease slowly sapped his vitality, in spite of all that skill and care could do, until yesterday morning, when the end came.
Mr. Rutherford was a man of broad ideas, energetic and upright, and made all with whom he came in contact his friends.
He leaves one son, James Edsall, aged 18 years, and two brothers, R. H. and W. A., in this city, and two brothers and as sister in New York.
